Reading Michael
What I like the best about borrowing the bosses copy of Clarity in the Classroom is that as she has read to through, studiously from cover to cover, she has highlighted all the important passages. She is also the sort of person who uses post-its to book mark key passages. That has saved me ages!
From the portion that I did read some key strategies are drawn out
Identify what it mean to be a learner
Giving good feedback is dependent on clarity of learning intensions and success criteria along with the availability of good examples
The chance for students to have multiple opportunities at responding to feedback.
The praise and rewards given need to focused around the learning taking place and not performance or compliance.
Opportunity needs to be given for self reflection and this needs to be recorded in some way and referred directly to the piece of work produced.
It does throw up one question that I would love ideas about and that is; How do we build the motivation to learn?
The answer to that question also gets us some way to answering the question; how do we make kids into life long learners?
