Podcasting with Jane
Yesterday was such a fun day for me. I went to see Jane Nicholls podcasting session-until 4.30p.m. and what a treat. It is great to be hearing about all that she does with her class and has been learning about over the last year. Some facts I managed to type before she moved on:
Hits on Google for podcasting24 hits 2000 124,000,000 in Novemeber 2006
The uptake of podcasting in the last six years is huge.
Take a look at this: Ask a Ninja- What is podcasting?
A couple of recording suggestions:TunetalkOlympus WS100 Digital voice recorder
Steps involved in developing an effective podcasting session focused on the development of oral language:
- Engagement with authentic topic
- Goal setting or construction of rubic
- Script
- Photography
- Recording
- Feedback
- Work with feedback
- Final presentation uploaded
- Reflection
So often we, myself included, Oral language is reduced to “news time” and standup feedback or presentation. So many kids appear unable in their oral language, whereas it is more to do with there confidence in front of an audience rather than inability with oral language. Podcasting does offer a solution, to a point, where the students can record their session, over and over if necessary, without an audience present and then show it when they are happy, comfortable and ready.
I had a go a podcasting myself during the session, everyone did and they can be found on the ULearn blog, sometime. Well Done Jane!

Well, to soon to say if it’s good, but at least it’s well designed.
I mean I thought I would be blocked after adding some interests, but the site helps you to add more.
Cheers
