Starting out

I delivered my first bit of training today. I was delighted with the enthusiasm of those who attended. One week out from term start, teachers busily getting into their rooms and preparing their resources and rooms for a fresh set of eager faces and they come to my session about using an interactive whiteboard in their classroom…. They are all stars.

Point of note from the session…. How can I speed up, cover the material and still ensure the teachers are ‘getting’ it all. I experimented with rushing through a portion of the presentation to allow for people to have a go but that didn’t quite work out as the evaluation forms reflected that they wished I’d spent some more time on….. (insert stuff I rushed). Perhaps I need to be upfront with people about the fact they are just going to have to go away and play with the software.

The great thing about the evaluations is that I can now tweak my presentation and get it going better and better.

I’m looking forward to Learning at Schools and was encouraged to here Chrissy say some folk are hoping to participate in my presentation…. The more the merrier!

I’ll post the title and link to the presentation when it goes live later this week.

Learning@Schools08

I’ve got a presentation coming up and I need your help…..If you are attending Learning at Schools 08 and are up for what I have termed ‘an open mike discussion’ on the role, responsibility and directions schools have in the 21st century please sign up.

I don’t presume to have all the answers but as regular reads of my blog know I’m great at asking questions….

The session will consider the ‘Did you know?’ material from Karl and Scott and consider where NZ sits in this global community and what educators of the ‘next geeneration’ need to do to enable NZers to secure their national future.

We will also consider New Zealand Unleashed and the ideas put forward by Steven Carden.

The more people who attend with ideas and views of this future the better the session will go and the more chance we have of affecting this change.

Please post ideas and comment regarding themes, ideas for discussion and thought about how to incorportate the attending audience and the global community… Chrissy and I have talked about the value of twitter, UPSTREAM but that’s as far as our 10 minute discussion got, any thoughts?

Breathe Technology Ltd.

Isn’t it amazing what happens when you move out of your comfort zone. It appears I am not alone in the NZblogosphere to leave the classroom, permanently or otherwise.

I am now beginning a whole new adventure as an Educational Technology Advisor. It is what I have hoped to become and there appears to be some flexibility that I require right now and to be perfectly honest with you I want to see this venture grow, probably as much as the boss does! I love its vision and ethos. The whole team wants to affect change for the better in the classrooms of New Zealand, for the better, and for a bright shining future.

As you can gather, I’m rather excited about 2008… bring it on!
