Starting out

I delivered my first bit of training today. I was delighted with the enthusiasm of those who attended. One week out from term start, teachers busily getting into their rooms and preparing their resources and rooms for a fresh set of eager faces and they come to my session about using an interactive whiteboard in their classroom…. They are all stars.

Point of note from the session…. How can I speed up, cover the material and still ensure the teachers are ‘getting’ it all. I experimented with rushing through a portion of the presentation to allow for people to have a go but that didn’t quite work out as the evaluation forms reflected that they wished I’d spent some more time on….. (insert stuff I rushed). Perhaps I need to be upfront with people about the fact they are just going to have to go away and play with the software.

The great thing about the evaluations is that I can now tweak my presentation and get it going better and better.

I’m looking forward to Learning at Schools and was encouraged to here Chrissy say some folk are hoping to participate in my presentation…. The more the merrier!

I’ll post the title and link to the presentation when it goes live later this week.

  1. Hi Simon
I’m glad your first training session went well :) I guess when it comes to fitting everything in it depends on how much time you have. Not sure if this helps but… i’m about to do a presentation for our ICT Cluster conference and I had heaps more info then I could fit into 55 minutes and still do everything justice. I created a wiki on wikispaces and put alot of my info and links up there. It’s still a work in progress, and obviously, being a wiki, can be interacted with, etc. I’m giving each participant a slip with the wiki address on, as well as my gmail and skype contact in case they want to know anything else. Here’s the url for my wiki if you want to take a peek http://globalaudience.wikispaces.com/
Once again, congratulations on such a positive start.

  2. Yes I think Kirsten’s idea is great. Provide a link for ‘after the event’ support. Those that are keen can get back to you when they hit upon a stumbling block- there is never enough time.
