Nelson Day 2
What a fantastic day here in Nelson. A busy morning putting a presentation together, don’t ask why I was looking at forklift trucks this morning but I came across this educational use of stop motion animation.
My afternoon was spent out at Mapua (not on the GPS!) we thought we would be late but as it turned out all was well.
I’ve spent a session working in Easiteach for some MAC users with the Interwrite board. Some of it was a learning curve for me too… not a big MAC user, me.
Possibly the highlight of the day was catching up with AllanahK for coffees and a chat. We spent a lovely evening talking our way through the edublogsphere. Good luck with the class tomorrow! Looking forward to catching up with Rachel tomorrow.
Often it is quite easy to lose perspective of Web2.0 and its uptake in New Zealand schools. But from where I’m sitting there is certainly a mind shift of teachers as a whole at least being to wonder about it all and beginning to ask questions. I have a whole raft of after school workshops to deliver designed as a introduction to blogging, podcasting, wikis and the like. It’ll be interesting to note over the coming year the uptake of those, especially as ICTPD funding is beginning to reduce over the next couple of years and op grants are being stretched to max.

Great to catch up with you guys as well.
The other thing I have been thinking about is the time investment we put in web tools and now some are going bust or asking for cash- what can we recommend to teachers to use that is likely to be sustainable.
We have been hooked into wanting- needing- these tools and now we are being asked to pay for them. Some will use it as an excuse not to use them at all.
